چکیده

Abstract Systena frontalis (F.) is a major insect pest of nursery production systems in the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast regions United States. Adults feed on plant leaves, which reduces salability nursery-grown plants. There are limited options available to protect plants from S. adult feeding damage, foliar insecticide applications labor intensive. Systemic insecticides applied growing medium may feeding. Consequently, 2021 2022, we conducted two laboratory greenhouse experiments determine if systemic thiamethoxam, dinotefuran, cyantraniliprole, acephate, imidacloprid, cyfluthrin + imidalcoprid by field-collected populations adults. In experiments, containing Itea was treated with aforementioned insecticides. Seven 25 d after treatments were applied, leaves collected placed into Petri dishes single adult. observation cages. Eight adults released each cage an plant. associated thiamethoxam dinotefuran resulted 100% mortality 72 h. acephate protected 7 applying treatments. Therefore, can mitigate damage caused

Systemic insecticides for control of black vine weevil (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in container- and field-grown nursery crops.

Black vine weevils, Otiorhynchus sulcatus (F.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), are serious pests of container- and field-grown nursery crops. Management programs usually target the larval stage in container-grown plants and the adults in field-grown plants. We tested several new systemic insecticides for efficacy against black vine weevil in container-grown Sedum spp. and field-grown Taxus spp. In...

Resistance to neonicotinoid insecticides in field populations of the Colorado potato beetle (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae).

BACKGROUND Neonicotinoid insecticides were first used commercially for Colorado potato beetle [Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say), Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae] control in the United States in 1995, and since then have been critical for management of this pest. Field populations from the northeastern and midwestern United States were tested from 1998 to 2010 for susceptibility to imidacloprid and thi...

Comparisons of ecorational and chemical insecticides against crucifer flea beetle (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) on canola.

Studies were done comparing the insecticides SpinTor (spinosad), BotaniGard (Beauveria bassiana), Neemix (azadirachtin), and Surround (kaolin, a clay) with conventional chemical insecticides Capture (bifenthrin) and Helix XTra (thiamethoxam), all applied at seven rates in a 7-d assay to assess their impact on adult crucifer flea beetle, Phyllotreta cruciferae (Goeze) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)...

Potential resistance of crape myrtle cultivars to flea beetle (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) and Japanese beetle (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) damage.

Field and laboratory studies were conducted to identify potential resistance among crape myrtles, Lagerstroemia spp., to Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica Newman and to flea beetles, Altica spp. Damage ratings revealed variation among cultivars in susceptibility to beetle feeding. Cultivars with Lagerstroemia fauriei Koehne in their parentage exhibited the least amount of damage in choice and ...

HORTICULTURAL ENTOMOLOGY Management of Early-Instar Japanese Beetle (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) in Field-Grown Nursery Crops

Numerous Þeld studies were conducted in commercial nurseries in Tennessee from 1996 through 1999 to evaluate chemical and biological treatments, application timing and rates, and method of application for control of early instars of Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica Newman. Insecticide treatments included bifenthrin, bendiocarb, chlorpyrifos, carbaryl, Þpronil, halofenozide, imidacloprid, perm...
